Arrival in Cappadocia
Your private driver meets you at the airport and takes you to your hotel. Depending on your arrival time, visit a nearby village and get a first lesson in how people here shaped homes, churches and whole communities out of soft volcanic rock.

Göreme Open-Air Museum and the rock-cut churches
Spend the morning in the Göreme Open-Air Museum, a monastic valley of rock-cut churches and chapels. Your guide reads the Byzantine frescoes scene by scene and explains how the monks of Cappadocia lived and worshipped. Continue to viewpoints and villages to see how the landscape shaped everyday life.

Underground cities and Christian communities
Descend into an underground city such as Kaymaklı or Derinkuyu, a maze of tunnels, stables, chapels and storerooms carved many levels deep. Your guide explains how these places were used over the centuries, for refuge, storage and community life, rather than only as Christian hiding places. Then visit more historic churches and settlements nearby.

The monastic heritage of Cappadocia and departure
A final visit to a rock-cut church or historic village, depending on your flight time, as your guide sums up Cappadocia's great contribution to Byzantine art. Then a private transfer to Kayseri or Nevşehir Airport.
